Well, Gezora's the most overrated of the underrated Toho Kaiju. Allow me to elaborate:
It appeared in 2 movies (Space Amoeba, Godzilla: Final Wars [in stock footage ]), 3 games (Godzilla Monster of Monsters, Kaiju-Oh Godzilla and Monster's Fair) and now 1 comic. Ganimes appeared in 1 movie and 1 game, and Kamoebas appeared in only two movies (Space Amoeba [where he was bullied by the the previous two monsters], and Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. [where he washed up dead ashore]). So the one who needs love is Kamoebas!
Toho really likes Gezora, why else would he be so much media? He might superficially seem unloved, but he's the most loved of the Yog kaiju... hehe. Gezora's cool, I like it.
Seriously awesome! Manda looks truly epic, and while Gezora is one of the least impressive kaiju Toho has cooked up in the past, he actually looks pretty cool in comic format. I've often wondered what Gezora may look like if revisited with modern suitmation effects, but at the very least he looks tough as a comic character. I hope both these sea monsters get a chance to shine, its REALLY nice to see lesser known kaiju being given attention in these new comics.
I'm especially surprised by how good Gezora looks, guess it goes to show that while Gezora's old costume from the 60s looks goofy compared to most suitmation effects of the Showa era, the design of the monster itself can still be made to work in comic format. I imagine Toho could make a better costume or prop for Gezora nowadays.
Manda's a fun kaiju regardless of gender, but I agree Toho could use more female monsters, heck, Battra, being a dark version of Mothra, would probably make more sense as a female monster than a male, really drive home that dark counterpart to Mothra theme.
One can always hope for more variety in the future :3
